Sleeping Beauty

Here you lie broken and hopeless,
I believed I could cure it all for you
Drive the demons from you,
That I could magically heal you
And now the pieces lay shattered,
The memories fading from the dungeons of my mind
How I'd tried to keep them shackled
How I'd prayed you'd shed your wings,
That you'd lie chained for eternity,
That I'd bleed for your tears,
That the dark would soothe your fears,
That I'd taste your pain, savour its beauty
But you were far too poisoned for me

I won't let you say goodbye,
I'll be your reasoin why....
You were here, yet you were burned
I watched the embers die away
Like evanescent sparks of my bygone dreams
Why did you seek the sun?
Chase the blind light, so clear and free?
Why can't I be so careless,so fickle as you wanted me to be?
But I'm too worn, too old to see
The blessed freedom, the numbing zeal
The soothing joy, the heavy air
The breath of which kills me day after day

To watch the drying tears mar the sleeping beauty of your face,
To clothe your remains in crimson roses
And still I live,
To weep your demise, which I myself have caused

To unclasp your shackles
To let you die, so stubborn was I

I'll rest in you and you'll comfort me
